The Career and Internship Manager will spend a majority of working time in one-to-one direct career and internship planning services to Master of Arts (MA) graduate students who are studying to become practitioners in the Criminal Justice (CRJ) field. The successful candidate will participate in the drop-in advising rotation and present regular workshops on topics ranging from resume and cover letter skills to interviewing to professional networking.

The Career and Internship Manager will report to the Administrative Director for the CRJ Master’s (MA) program and will also create and lead events and programs to educate students and alumni about career opportunities and planning. The position will function as a career services manager assisting students and alumni in career exploration, job and internship searching, and network-building from a variety of academic disciplines. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, other responsibilities to include:

  • Develop job placement opportunities with employers.

  • Assist students with all aspects of the internship and job searching process.

  • Screen student internship applications for appropriate qualifications.

  • Assist internship faculty as needed to ensure timely student completion of courses.

  • Assist students to prepare for the job market following graduation from the CRJ MA Program.

  • Communicate with students regarding the internship course-registration process.

  • Build and establish relationships with internship site supervisors and with students in the program.

  • Occasional weekend and evening work required.


Bachelor’s Degree and six years’ relevant experience required.


  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and project management skills.

  • Self-motivation and initiative.

  • Experience working in a complex organization.

  • Preferred familiarity with potential internship and job sites for criminal justice related professionals.

  • Ability to reach out, relate to and work with professionals and staff at potential job and internship sites.

  • Ability to mentor students in the development of internship and job placement skills.


  • Master’s degree in social sciences, advising, student affairs, or related, with coursework in criminal justice or related fields.

  • Five to seven years of experience working in the field.

  • Experience working with an urban, commuter-college student population.


Manages College’s academic internship program which provides career development opportunities and professional work experiences for students.

  • Develops and administers a comprehensive internship program based on students’ field of study

  • Develops assessment tools to analyze and monitor student career development progress; recommends various enhancements to improve students experiences; and analyzes job market trends to determine solutions in response to market conditions

  • Administers the on-campus recruiting program for internships; initiates and maintains communications with employer sponsors; and schedules student interviews; creates and leads student career workshops

  • Provides faculty development related to internships and tracks credit-bearing internships

  • Collaborates with the other College offices to facilitate student outreach and connection with employers for professional development, internships and job opportunities

  • Cultivates relationships with alumni, faculty, administration and students to improve and increase internship offerings

  • May manage professional and/or clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
