The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly 11,000 New York City youth each year. Our mission is to empower young adults to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.

The Door’s Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Services department is seeking Bachelor’s level Interns for Summer semester. The RHY department is a Drop-in Center for runaway and homeless youth which provides: crisis counseling, 2 meals a day, case management services, assistance with basic needs, recreational services, support groups, and assistance with housing and employment. We are seeking reliable and passionate interns to help out with our program. The primary responsibility of the RHY Intern would be to staff the front desk of the RHY office, assisting young people in getting connected to case management, crisis intervention, as well as directly providing basic needs services (showers, laundry, emergency clothing, and food) to homeless Door members.

Assist young people in getting connected to different services from RHY

Welcome young people to the RHY program

Current student working towards Bachelor’s

Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people

Monday – Friday 11am-7pm and Saturdays 11:30am – 5pm. A minimum commitment of 3 months, 14 hours per week is required, with additional hours available if desired.

This is an unpaid internship. However, internship hours can be used toward school credit if approved by the school.
